CASTING

Chile has become in the past few years, a multicultural country, which makes it very easy to find almost every ethnicity; from Asian to Afroamerican and from Northen/East Europe to the local Latin looks. Even Chile dose not have legal talent regulations and/or a strong union, there is an agreement in the industry and the parameters are set according to the following conditions: 1-Buyouts can be confirm after the final edit and must be confirmed & paid before 60 after the shoot. 2-Work days by category: • Kids up to 4 years: 6 hrs. (incl. makeup + wardrobe) + 1 hour lunch • Kids from 5 to 13 years and elderly (65 years or older): 8 hrs. (incl. makeup + wardrobe) + 1 hour lunch. • Adults from 14 to 64 years: 10 hrs. (incl. makeup + wardrobe) + 1 hour lunch. **When working out of Santiago, time card starts at the pickup point for transportation of the talent and ends at the drop point.

DISTANCES - TRANSPORTATION

In Chile, you basically go north or south. The entire country is connected through a main highway which allows to get nearly everywhere within our borders. A big upside is that we count with amazing contrasts within 3 hrs. You can wake up in the mountains to a fabulous breakfast, then have lunch in the valley with an awesome wine and finally enjoy a sundowner during the sunset in a gorgeous beach side spot… ALL IN ONE DAY!!!

CURRENCY

The national currency is the peso ($ or CLP), which exists in bills of $1.000, $2.000, $5.000, $10.000 & $20.000 and coins of $1, $5, $10, $50, $100 & $500. Foreign cash is not generally used (USD and EUR), except for hotels that may waive the value-added tax (IVA) if you are a foreigner, when you pay in US dollars or credit card. Foreign currency may be exchanged at any bank or Foreign Exchange Office, or usually at your hotel. Credit cards Credit cards are widely used and accepted. There is no surcharge for their use depending on your bank agreements. The most commonly accepted cards are Visa and Master Card. In medium to large businesses American Express and Diners are also accepted. Always check before making any purchase or payment.

TIME DIFFERENCES

The standard time zone in Chile is UTC/GMT -4 hours. This condition makes possible to match working day hours with Europe and the USA. Chile is almost at the same time as the east cost of USA.

LANGUAGE

Chile is known to have the Spanish language, but always be prepared to bring your own chilean dictionary, as we usually have our own words to refer to anything. Even we share a common lenguage in almost all Latin America, chileans are well known to talk something only we understand, Chilean, so be prepared to learn a new sub-lenguage and master de word “huevón”… once yo get to use it three times in a row with it´s different meanings al toghter, you can call yourself a CHILEAN, cachai?

POWER

The power supply is 220 volts at 50 Hz. all along Chile. Various international adapter plugs can be purchased locally for computers and other electrical appliances in almost any department store or supermarket. Remember that Chile uses the C & L plug, so be prepared for emergency charging while traveling in or to Chile. It looks like this • •

DRIVING

We are left handed drivers, so if you come from a british influenced country, remember the following: always stay in the right lane! Also, International driving licence is fully accepted, so be cautious and bring your´s as police is very rough and not so forgiving.

INCENTIVES

Chile started an Incentive Pilot Program with the objective of attracting foreign investment. This incentive is completely design for foreign productions with a minimum of 2 million USD spent in Chile, with the commitment of reimbursing 30% of qualified expenses for Featured Films, Television Series, Soap Operas and OTT content (internet based), with a maximum return limit of $3 million USD of qualified expenses. The application to the incentive needs to be done by foreign Producers or Production Companies together with a local Production Company, who will be the local partner in the country. This Incentive is awarded once a year with benefit of reimbursing every three months qualified expenses during the production process.  Qualified expenses subject to reimbursing: -Operational costs: Box Rentals, Insurance, basic expenses. -Payroll: Only the local crew. -Shooting Logistics and Location: Transportation, Meals, On Set Expenses, Locations. -Technical Expenses: Equipment Rental and expenses related to equipment. -Artistic: Makeup, SFX, Construction, Wardrobe, Editing. -Rights: only for local copyright and authors. Every Above the line costs are out of the qualified expenses list, such as, Producer Fees, Main Roles, Script, etc… Even M· I· C is a brand new production company, we are fully registered to pitch for any incentive.

Chile is well known for having a strict customs process, but in our advantage, we are only country in south america that offers de ATA carnet system, which always makes the process smoother and simplifies most of the import paperwork.
